Pittsburg's
climate is called “humid, subtropical,” which is typical of much of the Southeastern United States. A humid, subtropical climate is characterized by hot, humid summers and mild to cool winters. Rainfall is usually distributed fairly evenly throughout the year. Winter rainfall, and sometimes even snowfall, is associated with large storm systems that move from west to east. Thunderstorms are typical in the summertime and occasionally tropical storms or hurricanes affect the weather. East Texas receives more rainfall, on average, than the rest of Texas. Rainfall averages forty-four inches a year, and the growing season extends for an average of 240 days. Temperatures range from an average high of 94° F in July to an average low of 30° in January. A temperate forest known as the Piney Woods dominates the upper two-thirds of this region.
